Parent Network of Western NY presents the workshop All About Me on Thursday, Aug. 24 from 1 to 3 p.m. This workshop is to assist parents in creating a profile page for their child with developmental disabilities. The workshop will help parents focus on the strengths and needs of their child and how to share this information with bus drivers; lunch room monitors; teachers and other community members who are interactive in a child's daily life.

Autism Services Inc presents a workshop discussing High-Functioning Autism at ASI's Resource Center on Thursday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. The workshop will be presented by ASI's Director of Training, Shaun Doyle. At this workshop participants will learn about the unique talents of this incredible population, and will provide a helpful guide for families and/or professionals in learning to understand the characteristics of High-Functioning Autism and strategies for working with this wonderful population in a multitude of settings.

Beginning at age 15, an Individualized Education Program (IEP) is required to provide a section for the student's future called a transition plan. Parent Network of Western New York presents the workshop Self-Directed Services on Thursday, Sept. 28 from 7 to 8:45 p.m. In this workshop individual's families and caregivers will learn what OPWDD funded self-directed services are and how they work. Participants develop a basic understanding of creating an initial services plan for the individual with a developmental disability; identify what their responsibilities will be and who they will be working with during this process. Learn about the terms employer, budget authority, and what the roles of the start-up broker, support broker and more will play in Self-Directed Services.
