Parent Network of Western New York presents the workshop Picking Up The Pieces on Tuesday, July 25 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Every child receiving special education services has an Individualized Education Program (IEP). What is it? Who writes it? What does individualized mean? In this workshop participants will learn about the parts of an IEP, receive tips and tools to become more involved in the planning process.

Parent Network of Western NY presents the workshop Making Sense of School Discipline on four Tuesdays in August from 6 to 8 p.m. This four week workshop series will focus on the code of conduct schools use, the general discipline policy and how students with disabilities fit into these policies. This series will help parents understand the suspension process, student rights, and what to expect next.

 

This four-part series will take place on the following dates:

  • Part 1: Aug. 1
  • Part 2: Aug. 8
  • Part 3: Aug. 15
  • Part 4: Aug. 22

Starbridge presents the I Am My Child's Best Advocate Workshop Series: Get a Headstart on the New School Year, a 3-part series. Weeks one and three take place in-person and week two will take place online. There will be two offerings for this workshop, one in Cattaraugus County and the second in Allegany County.

   
Cattaraugus County Location - Jamestown Community College:

Week one will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 9 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. and will focus on:

  • Developing a vision for my child's future
  • Developing a "Welcome to My CSE" presentation
  • Importance of self-advocacy for my child

Week two, online learning, will focus on understanding the IEP process.

   

Week three will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 23 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. and will focus on:

  • Continuum of Special Education services
  • Committee on Special Education meeting scenarios
  • Welcome to My CSE presentations

   

Allegany County Location - Jones Memorial Hospital:

  • Week one will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 12 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and will focus on:
  • Developing a vision for my child's future
  • Developing a "Welcome to My CSE" presentation
  • Importance of self-advocacy for my child

Week two, online learning, will focus on understanding the IEP process.

   

Week three will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 26 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and will focus on:

  • Continuum of Special Education services
  • Committee on Special Education meeting scenarios
  • Welcome to My CSE presentations

   

Registration for this series is required by August 4 and is free to family members of children who have disabilities or suspected disabilities.To register for the Cattaraugus County workshop click here, or the Allegany County workshop click here or call 585-224-7399. Pizza and beverages will be provided during the in-person sessions. A $15 gas card or grocery gift card will be available for each family at the in-person workshops.
