Parent to Parent of Western NY presents the bilingual workshop Understanding School Behavior Plans on Tuesday, Nov. 20 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. This workshop will teach families all about the special education process, including what to expect at meetings of the Committee on Special Education (CSE) or the Committee on Preschool Speical Educaiton (CPSE). Designed to help families learn how to take an active role in the education process, this class provides useful resources for the future.

Theatre of youth presents Sensory Friendly Performance Series featuring A Charlie Brown Christmas on Sunday, Dec. 16 at 10 a.m. in a sensory friendly environment. Children can sit where they are most comfortable and move around as they need, all while enjoying the magic of live theatre.

Research Study: to better understand caregivers’ experiences with respite

The Health Foundation for Western and Central New York has awarded researchers from the University of Georgia, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Rochester are collaborating on a research study to better understand caregivers' experiences with respite. Caregivers who reside in one of 16 western or central counties will be interviewed via telephone between January and April 2019. Between 80 to 85 caregivers will be selected to participate in focus groups at the 2019 ARCH National Lifespan Respite Conference in Buffalo April 30 to May 2. Participants will be mailed a $100 gift card at the completion of their interviews.

   

The target population is family adult caregivers of older adults who have physical, intellectual, or cognitive disabilities, and are consumers of respite services. Caregivers must be 18 years or older and have been caregiving for at least 3 months.
