“How do we mix it up?” 

The JCC is excited to introduce a six week program designed for children with disabilities, ages 3-5. Staff will support children to engage in new activities, increase social skills, and have a great time! The program is open to JCC members as well as non-members.

  • Week One: How Wet Can You Get? Have fun splashing in the pool and engaging in water play activities! 
  • Week Two: How Does This Work? Children will enjoy working as scientists to figure out how things work! 
  • Week Three: How Messy Can You Get? Sorry Mom and Dad, we are getting messy! Children will participate in art activities that allow them to get a little messy while creating their works of art. 
  • Week Four: How Fast Can You Go? Join us in the gym for an afternoon of fun filled gross motor movements. 
  • Week Five: How Nice Does That Sound? Singing, dancing, instruments, music and movement makes it sound like the perfect afternoon. 
  • Week Six: How Does This End? After hearing a special story, children will complete an art project, song, and gross motor activity based on the story.

Parent to Parent of NYS and Rainbow's Reach presents Education Record Keeping Workshop on Thursday, April 4 from 8 to 9 p.m. This free workshop is designed to help parents and guardians of children with special needs organize their education records. A binder, dividers and other supplies will be provided. Please bring the following:

  • IEPs (from the current and previous years)
  • Report Cards and Progress Reports (2 years)
  • Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA( and Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) (2 years)
  • List of Contacts: Physicians, teachers, service providers, school information, bus information
  • Communications regarding child's educaiton
  • Evaluations (school evaluations and/or independent evaluations)
  • Pictures, awards or recognitions that your child has received (including sports participation, Girl or Boy Scouts, church, perfect attendance, etc.)

2nd Annual Walk for Grace and the Island’s Largest Easter Egg Festival

The Grace Foundation of New York presents the 2nd Annual Walk for Grace and the Island's Largest Easter Egg Festival on Sunday, April 7. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. with the walk beginning at 10:30 a.m. Participants may walk as a team or solo to raise money in support of programs and services provided by the Grace foundation.

   

The Easter Egg Festival will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Where the $20 entry fee for ages 4 and up includes a Easter Egg Hunt, Inflatable Rides, Live DJ, Games, Face Painting, Tattoos, and Arts & Crafts, Easter Bunny photos. Pony Rides, Food and a Framed Easter Bunny photo are available for additional purchase.

   

The Walk for Grace registration form, festival tickets and a schedule of events are available at eastereggfestival.com. 100% of proceeds go to the Grace Foundation of NY which provides support and services to individuals and families affected with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

She will be presenting information to parents on what it is like to be a sibling of someone with a disability. The needs of siblings of people with disabilities are complex, varied, and change over time. Though each sibling experience is unique, Lindsay will be providing some insight on what siblings need throughout different stages of their lives.

  • Surviving Spring Break - March 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. - Creative ideas and activities to do with your child during unstructured time
  • Behavior Management 101 - April 16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Preparing for Changes - April 30 from 6 to 9 p.m. - Top tricks and tips to manage challenging behaviors from YAI's signature Project GROW curriculum
  • Creating Visual Schedules & Picture Routines - May 7 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. - Create visual charts to aid in routine, communication, and daily living tasks in the home environment. Participants will leave with a project to bring home.
