The Health Foundation for Western and Central New York has awarded researchers from the University of Georgia, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Rochester are collaborating on a research study to better understand caregivers' experiences with respite. Caregivers who reside in one of 16 western or central counties will be interviewed via telephone between January and April 2019. Between 80 to 85 caregivers will be selected to participate in focus groups at the 2019 ARCH National Lifespan Respite Conference in Buffalo April 30 to May 2. Participants will be mailed a $100 gift card at the completion of their interviews.

   

The target population is family adult caregivers of older adults who have physical, intellectual, or cognitive disabilities, and are consumers of respite services. Caregivers must be 18 years or older and have been caregiving for at least 3 months.

RSE-TASC and PTAC presents a Parent Member Training on Wednesday, Apr. 3 or Wednesday, May 1 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. For parents and care takers of children who receive special education service who want to learn more about the special education process and possibly assist other families. This training offers the opportunity for parents to become a Committee on Special Education (CSE)/Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) Parent Member and explore their specific role and responsibilities as productive CSE/CPSE members. During this training participants will:

  • Review the special education process from referral to implementation
  • Summarize CSE meeting procedures, IEP development, and state and federal regulations
  • Explore specific roles, responsibilities, and effective communication as CSE/CPSE members
