The Rochester Regional Center for Autism Spectrum Disorder (RRCASD) will be hosting a webinar series during the winter of 2017-18. The topics for the series are as follows:

  • Increasing the Leisure and Recreational Skills of Persons with ASD on Wednesday, Dec. 13 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. featuring Dr. David McAdam, Ph.D., BCBA-D
  • Using Visuals to Increase Tolerance for Waiting in Children with ASD on Tuesday, Jan. 16 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. with Dr. Kenneth Shamlian, Psy.D., BCBA-D
  • Behavioral Assessment and Intervention for Self-Injurious Behavior on Wednesday, Feb. 21 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. with Dr. David McAdam, Ph.D., BCBA-D

Syracuse University Parent Assistance Center (SUPAC) and Mid-State and Central Regional Special Educational Technical Assistance Support Centers (RSE-TASC) presents the workshop CPSE/CSE Parent Member Training on Thursday, Jan. 25 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This training is designed to certify individuals to become a CPSE/CSE Parent Member while ensuring that all members of the CPSE/CSE team work together effectively. Participants will learn the steps of the special education process, basic vocabulary, laws and regulations pertaining to students with disabilities and understand a child's special education rights.

Central Early Childhood Direction Center presents the parent training Sensory Integration on Thursday, Jan. 25 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. This workshop will discuss the basics of child development including developmental areas and developmental milestones. Participants will also learn tips about what to do if there is a concern regarding a child's development.

    

Participants will:

  • Become familiar with common developmental milestones for each age group
  • Learn activities to promote healthy development
  • Learn to identify red flags in development
  • Identify resources for information and assistance

This workshop will be presented by Cori Lesher, Program Coordinator. There is no cost for this training, but seating is limited. Registration is required by Thursday, Jan. 11. If an ASL Interpreter, Braille, listening device or other accommodation is needed, please specify when registering.

Workshop: Discipline and Suspension: Understanding the Rights of Students with Disabilities

Starbridge presents the workshop Discipline and Suspension: Understanding the Rights of Students with Disabilities on Thursday, Jan. 25 from 12 to 2 p.m. Learn the difference between general discipline procedures and discipline procedures for students with disabilities. Children with disabilities have specific rights under state and federal laws when it comes to suspensions and school discipline. This workshop will provide an overview of these rights and the process used for discipline and suspensions. Participants will learn about Functional Behavioral Assessments and how to create a proactive behavior management plan to help avoid future conflict.
