North Country Prenatal/Perinatal Council presents free Summer Adventure Events, available to youth over the age of 13. Lunch will be provided at each event, and a permission slip is required. Busing will be provided by LACS Department of Transportation with drop-off and pick-up at the Trinity Ave. LACS Parking.

Camp Oswegatchie dates are as follows:

  • July 7: Hiking/Climbing Tower
  • July 21: Low/High Ropes Course
  • Aug. 11: Canoe/Kayak Adventure

The bus leaves at 9 a.m. and returns at 4:45 p.m.

Stillmeadow Ranch dates are as follows:

  • July 28
  • Aug. 4

The bus leaves at 9:30 a.m. and returns at 4 p.m.

The Onodaga Pathways to Careers (OPC) Scholars Program is beginning recruitment for the 2017-2018 cohort of students. The OPC Scholars Program is a college preparatory program with youth with disabilities who are seniors in high school preparing to attend college. Over the course of their senior year, students in the Scholars Program will learn important information that will help them with their transition from high school to college. Workshops will cover information such as college support services, self-advocacy, career exploration & planning, and leadership development. To be eligible, students must:

  • Have a documented disability (IEP or 504 accommodation plan)
  • Be on track to graduate high school with a local or Regents diploma by June 2018
  • Have an interest in pursuing college after graduating high school

The OPC staff will be holding three different informaiton sessions this summer to give an in-depth overview of the program structure, application process, benefits/incentives of being an OPC Scholar, and answer any general questions. These sessions will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. on the following days:

  • July 11
  • July 19
  • August 10

Central ECDC presents the workshop Child Development Free Parent Training on Thursday, July 27 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. This workshop will discuss the basics of child development including developmental areas and developmental milestones. Participants will also learn tips about what to do if there is a concern regarding a child's development. At this workshop participants will:
Become familiar with common developmental milestones for each age group

  • Learn activities to promote healthy development
  • Identify resources for information and assistance
  • Learn to identify red flags in development

Exceptional Family Resources' Advocacy Workshop: Person-Centered Planning Meetings; Strategies & Tools on Thursday, Aug. 3 from 12 to 2 p.m. What is the purpose of a Person-Centered Plan? How is a Person-Centered Plan used to write an ISP? What is my role during a Person-Centered Planning meeting? How can I advocate in a positive way? Attendees will learn how to develop a Person-Centered Plan, given different examples of planning tools/form to assist, how the information from a Person-Centered Plan will be used to develop an Individualized Service Plan (ISP) and more. This workshop is appropriate for anyone receiving OPWDD services, their family members, MSC's or other professionals that participate in the PCP/ISP meeting process. The Kelberman Center with iCan Shine presents iCan Bike, a five-day camp taking place from Aug. 21 through 25 for 75 minutes per day at the New Hartford Recreation Center. iCan Shine is a non-profit organization that teaches individuals with disabilities to ride a conventional two-wheel bicycle through this program.
