The Adaptive Teen Time at the Brooklyn Public Library offers teens with and without disabilities the opportunity to learn skills and make friends in a collaborative environment that promotes creativity and critical thinking skills.

INCLUDEnyc presents the workshop Parenting a Child with a Disability on Thursday, March 28 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. An INCLUDEnyc family educator will share their personal and professional experiences parenting and advocating for their child with disabilities. Discussion includes navigating the NYC public school system, relationships with family members, and other communities.

The Parent Member is a member of the IEP team that supports a parent of a child with a disability at their IEP meeting. In this state approved training, participants will learn about procedures and regulations, as well as how to promote the parent's understanding and participation.

The Adapt Community Network Family Connect Center presents the workshop How to Create a Sensory Environment on Tuesday, April 9 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Every individual on the Autism Spectrum experiences the world differently from a sensory point of view. This talk will provide a brief background on the neurobiological evidence for sensory differences in ASD and then provide practical guidance on creating sensory friendly environments. Several sensory sensitivities will be covered generally and specific examples will be provided to illustrate individual preferences and needs.

The Adapt Community Network Family Connect Center presents the workshop What You Need to Know in Regard to Insurance Coverage for Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Other Autism Services on Wednesday, April 17 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Yvonne McNamee will provide an overview of the 2019 updates and changes for insurance coverage of Autism services for both providers and insured families. Yvonne will provide information about how to initiate insurance coverage with an insurance carrier; how to approach an insurance plan as a provider and how to approach the carrier as a member/insured. She will go over the tips for completing an authorization request. Most importantly, Yvonne will give an overview of the new codes for billing Applied Behavior Analysis claims identifying which insurance carriers have transitioned to the new coding model. There will be ample time for questions following the presentation.
