The Adaptive Teen Time at the Brooklyn Public Library offers teens with and without disabilities the opportunity to learn skills and make friends in a collaborative environment that promotes creativity and critical thinking skills.

 

Play a game, create music or make a new friend at the Adaptive Teen Time Progam.

The Brooklyn Public Library presents Adaptive Gaming Arcade on Sunday, Sept. 23 from 1 to 5 p.m. Join for an afternoon of Minecraft, rumble patch controllers, Wii and more.

   

This event is free and will take place at Central Library, Info Commons Lab and is open to ages 13 and up with, and without disabilities.

Are they Getting the Services They Need? on Friday, Sept. 28 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Many students with serious disabilities are having trouble getting the services and placements they need. Find out: how to get the IEP enforced, how to appeal when problems occur, and who to call for help. Join to learn more and get the help your preschooler needs.

Autism-friendly performance of Disney’s The Lion King

TDF presents an Autism-friendly performance of Disney's The Lion King on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 1 p.m. This is a special performance for individuals on the Autism spectrum, as well as people with other developmental or cognitive disabilities who may benefit, not for the general public.

The running time for this play is two hours and thirty minutes including one fifteen minute intermission.

Warnings:

  • At the beginning of the show and at the beginning of the second act there is a large procession through the orchestra in the aisles. Please note this when choosing seat locations.
  • There are potentially scary moments in the first act with an on stage stampede and Mufasa falling from a cliff.
  • There are ramps at the edge of the stage. Please note this if you are accompanying an individual prone to running.
  • The fundraiser Broadway Flea Market & Grand Auction will be taking place on the day of this performance. This event produces large crowds and will cause congestion in the area of the Minskoff Theatre.

Ticket prices range from $50 to $79. Tickets will go on sale beginning at noon on Wednesday, Aug. 15. (enter password SIMBATDF). Click here for more information.
