Event: 

Supporting Our Youth and Adults Network (SOYAN) will be visiting the North Shore on Tuesdays, January 8, February 5, and March 5 from 7 to 9 p.m. This community program provides support, education, and community information to families navigating Self-Direction. Topics will be determined by group participation.

   

SOYAN Advocacy Working Group meetings will take place on Tuesdays, January 15, February 12, and March 12 from 7 to 9 p.m. Advocacy Working Group addresses policy and regulations pertaining to sustainability and longevity of Self-Direction (OPWDD).

   

SOYAN Community Program meetings will take place on Tuesdays, January 19, February 26, and March 26 from 7 to 9 p.m. The Community Program provides support and community information, and is open to all. Topics will be determined by the group participation.

Everything Special Needs presents Planned Play Dates 4th Annual Easter Egg Hunt on Friday, April 19 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. For children with special needs and their siblings. Registration is $20 ahead of time or $25 at the door and free for adults. The registration fee includes:

  • Grand Play Area
  • Dinner for the Whole Family
  • DJ Dance Room
  • Easter Egg Hunt

World Autism Awareness Day on April 2 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Microsoft Store in the Roosevelt Field Mall. This event will feature:

  • The Nassau County R.E.A.C.H. Program: Register your child/young adult with developmental disability to assist with prompt/safe return in the event of an emergency (Return Every Adult and Child Home)
  • Nassau County Police Activity League - Special Needs Unit: Available to discuss various sports and recreational programs, plus educational and social experiences available throughout the community
  • Ken's Krew Inc: providers of job placement and training services to young adults transitioning from school to work will be available to address questions about their services.
  • Microsoft: Accessibility and Including through Gaming - Fun activities for all to enjoy throughout the event.
