SIBSHOPS monthly events on Saturdays from November through June from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost for each session is $35 and includes art materials, snacks and pizza. SIBSHOPS are opportunities for brothers and sisters of children with special health and developmental needs to obtain peer support within a recreational context.
Being the brother or sister of a person with special needs is for some a good thing, others a not-so good thing, and for many somewhere in between. SIBSHOPS reflect a belief that brothers and sisters have much to offer one another -- if they are given a chance.
Saturday event dates include Nov. 5, Dec. 3, Jan. 7, Feb. 4, Mar. 11, Apr. 8, May 6 and June 3. The cost for each session is $35 and includes art materials, snacks and pizza. Events will be held at Nokomis Elementary School (across from the Sachem Public Library).
Siblings of children ages 7 to 12 with special health and developmental needs are invited to attend. Exceptions can be made for siblings who are interested, but are beyond this age group. Siblings can bring close friends or cousins who have close contact with the family as well.
To sign up a child for a SIBSHOPS event email Patti Waskiewics or call 631-807-0762.
