Autism services finger lakes logo.jpgAutism Services of the Finger Lakes at Happiness House presents the workshop Social Stories with Carol Gray on Friday, October 20 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. This conference is for families and professionals featuring Carol Gray, a consultant to children, adolescents, and adults with Autism providing support via workshops and information, referral resources, and direct services for individuals with Autism, their families, and those who work on their behalf.

Carol is best know for the development of Social Stories, a well-respected evidence-based practice used worldwide with people with of all ages.

The cost for this workshop is $85 for parents or $110 for professionals and includes morning continental breakfast, lunch and afternoon dessert/coffee, plus ample free parking.

Office for People With Developmental Disabilities presents Front Door Family Information Sessions which offer participants an understanding of OPWDD's mission and purpose; the process to become eligible for OPWDD supports services; types of supports and services available; and where individuals and families can go to get assistance. Families/Individuals are welcome to attend any session that is convenient for them. Families are only required to attend one session even if there are multiple people in the family to be represented.

Family Support Services Advisory Council presents the information session Surrounding Yourself with Support on Friday, Nov. 3 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. This information session is for those with a family member with a developmental disability living at home that exhibits challenging behavior. This free event will be presented by Mike Kephart from Ontario ARC and Nick Ziemann and Maureen Chaffer from Mary Cariola Children's Center. Participants will understand how stress shapes behavior, learn techniques for stress reduction, learn practical strategies to manage a child's behavior and explore ways to ensure safety in their environment.

   

All parents are welcome to attend and professional may attend if accompanied by a parent. Please register by Oct. 27 by emailing region1fss@opwdd.ny.gov or call 585-461-8830 or 716-532-5522 ext. 2303. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Parent Network of Western New York and Starbridge present the workshop Discipline and Suspension Workshop on Tuesday, Nov. 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. When students with disabilities need discipline and possibly suspension, there are special rules that must be followed. This workshop will provide an overview of a student's rights and the processes required by law.
