AutismUp presents Picky Eaters Club designed to reduce anxiety around food and eating for children ages 4 to 12 years. The first 45 minutes of Picky Eaters Club are spent together as a group while caregivers and participants interact with food via games, experiments and activities. During the second half of class, caregivers and participants separate into two groups. Caregivers engage in guided discussion and support while participants continue in the kitchen with further exploration, food preparation and tasting. Topics covered include hierarchy of exposure, food chaining, routines and tips for reducing anxiety.

The club runs on Wednesdays from July 12 to Aug. 30 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and costs $220. Scholarships and installment billing is available. See the website for details.

Autism Up presents iCan Bike, a five day intensive learn to ride a bike program which runs from July 24 through 28 at the Rochester Institute of Technology. This week-long camp teaches individuals with Autism and other disabilities, to ride a conventional bike without training wheels. In order to participate, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be at least eight years old
  • With a disability
  • Able to walk without an assistive device
  • Able to sidestep to both sides
  • Able to wear a properly fitted bike helmet
  • Minimum inseam of 20″
  • Maximum weight is 220 lbs.
  • Able to attend camp all five days

AutismUp presents Game Skillz, a class where youth ages 8 to 12 will learn through various games which involve opportunities to practice skills such as turn taking, processing, problem solving and emotional control (accepting losing). As children age, school and home life become more complex, these skills are needed to be successful. This class is best for participants who have an interest in board and card games.

 

The class runs on Thursdays, Aug. 10 to 31 from 5 to 6 p.m. and the cost for the session is $80. Scholarships and installment billing is available. See the website for details.

Starbridge.jpgStarbridge presents the conference Belonging Matters - The Keys to Relationships with featured speaker Al Condeluci, PhD on Aug. 17 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Having a network of meaningful relationships - called "social capital" - is a critical component of building a healthy, happy life for all people. Dr. Al Condeluci will examine the importance of social capital for people who have disabilities, how friendships can be better developed, and how this leads to inclusive, vibrant communities.

Join in the morning session, afternoon session, or full day conference.

  • Morning session - 8:30-11:30am
  • Lunch break - 11:30am-1:00pm
