Hi-5 Sports presents Basketball Season beginning in December. Hi-5 Sports strives to provide an environment which allows people with special needs to build self-esteem, confidence, and friendships through sports by providing opportunities to socialize, compete and exercise both their motor and life skills.

Basketball is offered for three skill levels including Beginners, Intermediates and Advanced.

Vision and Handwriting Workshop

Fox Vision Development presents Vision and Handwriting Workshop on Wednesday, April 25 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Dr. Robert Fox will discuss how vision problems are frequently overlooked in children with poor handwriting, primarily due to poor screening procedures which don't evaluate how a child sees up close. Symptoms and treatment options will be discussed.

   

Carrie Thompson, COTA, Vision Therapist will discuss the following:

  • Writing readiness -posture, strengthening, etc.
  • Development of hand grasp
  • Ways to practice handwriting using "Handwriting Without Tears" and other sensory modalities.

Additional workshops will be offered on Wednesday May 26 and Wednesday, June 6.

Center for Autism and Related Disabilities presents the Spring Training Series Neurophychology of Autism Spectrum Disorders on Thursdays, Apr. 26, May 3, May 10 and May 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. Neuropsychology is the study of how the brain relates to the behavior we observe and it offers a framework for understanding and intervening for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). In this session, participants will gain familiarity with the leading neuro-psychological and neuroanatomical theories behind ASD.

April's Aim High Adult Parent Group meeting will feature Lori Lembo, a Culinary Arts graduate as she presents a Cooking Class information seminar on Thursday, Apr. 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. The cooking class is appropriate for students of all abilities and all ages through Adulthood. Self Advocates, parents, caregivers, school personnel, service coordinators and all interested are welcome to attend.

   

Gaining independence and knowledge in the kitchen is beneficial for the following reasons:

  • Nutrition and healthy eating habits
  • Self-confidence
  • How to budget money and grocery shopping
  • Basic math and reading skills

Center for Autism and Related Disabilities' (CARD) Spring Carnival will take place on Saturday, Apr. 28 from 9 to 11 a.m. Celebrate with games and good cheer. There will be carnival treats and prizes galore. Check-in starts at 9 a.m. The morning will feature a magic show with Mr. Mike Magic from 9:30 to 10 a.m. and balloon twisting from 10 to 10:30 a.m. A light breakfast will be served.

Wildwood Programs presents the workshop Social Security/Medicaid on Thursday, May 3 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Learn the differences between Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI), what insurances are included with these benefits and the effects of employment with these benefits. There will also be an overview of Medicaid which will include how to qualify and the different types of Medicaid programs.
