Hi-5 Sports presents Basketball Season beginning in December. Hi-5 Sports strives to provide an environment which allows people with special needs to build self-esteem, confidence, and friendships through sports by providing opportunities to socialize, compete and exercise both their motor and life skills.

Basketball is offered for three skill levels including Beginners, Intermediates and Advanced.

Center for Autism and Related Disabilities presents their annual Fall Family Events as follows:

  • Saturday, Sept. 29 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.: Apple Picking at Sand Flats Orchard located at 371 Martin Rd., Fonda, NY. Enjoy hay rides, apple picking, pick a pumpkin, and enjoy some doughnuts and cider.
  • Friday, Oct. 26 from 6 to 8 p.m.: Halloween Party at Century House located at 997 New Loudon Rd., Latham, NY. The party will feature a costume contest, crafts, food, and entertainment.
  • Saturday, Dec. 1 from 9 to 11 a.m.: Holiday Party at The Desmond, 660 Albany Shaker Rd., Albany, NY. Make holiday crafts, eat a delicious breakfast, and visit with a special guest.


The cost to attend the Apple Picking event or the Halloween Party is $10 each. Space is limited. RSVP by Sept. 21. See the attached flyer with registration form for details.

Women & Infants Linking Lifetime Opportunities for Wellness (WILLOW) presents Women to Women, a monthly drop-in support group for Women of Albany County ages 18-44, hosted by WILLOW of Albany County Department of Health. The group will meet on the following dates:

  • Monday, Oct. 8, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.: Albany Public Library, Delaware Branch, 331 Delaware Ave., Albany

The Niskayuna Central School District's Special Education Department is hosting a Parent Information Night on Thursday, Nov. 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. The district will offer a short presentation on the K-12 program continuum and programs offered at each level.



Additionally, Tina Beauparlant, Regional Program Manager/Education Specialist, will give a presentation on what Parent to Parent of NYS has to offer, including:

  • Support – We offer parents/caregivers the opportunity to connect one-to-one with a parent/caregiver of an individual with the same or similar disability or special health care need – someone who has “been there.”
  • Information & Referral – We help families locate the information and services they need
  • Training – Workshops are available on various topics.

Parents will be given an opportunity to ask any questions they may have.

Special Education Task Force (SETF) presents the workshop Preventing Burnout on Thursday, Dec. 6 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. presented by Lindsey Pensabene, Regional Coordinator, Parent to Parent of NYS. The holiday season is a stressful time for everyone; particularly families of children with special needs and the professionals who serve them. This training will discuss ways to keep these stressors from taking over out lives. Together, we will discover ways to cope and emotionally manage our stress.
