Hi-5 Sports presents Basketball Season beginning in December. Hi-5 Sports strives to provide an environment which allows people with special needs to build self-esteem, confidence, and friendships through sports by providing opportunities to socialize, compete and exercise both their motor and life skills.

Basketball is offered for three skill levels including Beginners, Intermediates and Advanced.

Special Needs Sensory Friendly Sunday at Sky Zone

Sky Zone Trampoline Park presents Special Needs Sensory Friendly Sunday on the second Sunday of every month from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The cost is $9.99 per hour with advance purchase, regular price for walk-ins.

Sky Zone will turn off the music and dial down the distractions for the comfort of special jumpers. Additionally, Sky Zone will make every effort to accommodate all jumpers with any kind of special needs.

Please note that the first hour will be very low sensory with no music playing, however during the second hour there will be music playing due to other programming.

Transitions three day Mini-Camps are available for high school students and young adults with learning differences to become more independent and build confidence in living a fulfilled and productive life. Students will learn valuable skills and create lasting friendships, they will also get to know themselves on a deep level that helps them use their strengths to find their niche in life.

Camps will take place on the following dates:

  • May 19-21
  • July 14-16
  • Aug. 4-6
  • Oct. 7 (one day session)
  • Dec. 1-3

Mini-camps will take place at Transitions' facility in Upstate New York; the cost is $125 for a weekend or $95 for one-day camps, with an additional fee for overnight accommodations. For more information see the attached flyer below.

C.R.E.A.T.E. Community Studios presents Social Skills Through Art on Wednesdays, June 21, Jul. 26, Aug. 23, Sept. 27 and Oct. 18 from 6 to 7:15 p.m. Enhancing social skills awareness and good communication skills can be fun when done through engaging, active and creative projects in a group atmosphere. Focus is on team-building & problem-solving skills. Open to students, ages 9-13, who enjoy art, are verbal, and able to work in a small group atmosphere.

Transitions also offers Adirondack Expressions Art Camp for young adults ages 16 to 27 who have learning differences and want to learn about art. Parent to Parent of NYS presents a Hispanic Group Meeting for Parents or Relatives of Children with Developmental Disabilities and Special Health Care Needs with two dates, Thursday, July 20 and Wednesday, July 26. The topic of this session is loss, grief, and adjustment for parents of children with special needs. The discussion will focus on the grieving process and how a negative feeling can turn into a positive one when we assume a life perspective based on what is, and not on what could be.

The meetings will take place in different locations:

  • July 20, 6 to 8 p.m.: Delaware Public Library, 331 Delaware Ave., Albany, NY (RSVP by July 17)
  • July 26, 6 to 8 p.m.: Parent to Parent of NYS, 500 Balltown Road, Schnectady, NY (RSVP by July 21)

El tema de esta sesión es pérdida, Para padres de niños con necesidades especiales. La discusión se centrará en el proceso de duelo y cómo un sentimiento negativo puede convertirse en positivo cuando asumimos una perspectiva de vida basada en lo que es, y no en lo que podría ser.

Parent to Parent of NYS presents the training Education Records Organizer on on Friday, Sept. 15 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. This free training is designed for parents, guardians and advocates of children who are dealing with the Committee on Preschool Special Education / Committee on Special Education and children who have 504 plans who have special education needs. This workshop will be presented by Dianne O'Connor of Parent to Parent of NYS.

This is an interactive workshop where parents, guardians and advocates of children who receive special education services take all of the educational records, and organize them into a record keeping book. This workshop will assist in become more organized in the planning of a child's education, and the CPSE/CSE process.
