Summer Camps for OPWDD Youths

AIM Independent Living Center presents summer camps for OPWDD youths will take place for a week at a time in Schuyler, Steuben and Chemung counties. The camps are for youths ages 14-21 who live at home and have Office for People with Developmental Disabilities eligibility. The camps will run for six hours per day over five days. They will focus on building social and communication skills. There is no cost to participate, and lunch will be provided.

The camp schedule will be as follows:

  • Schuyler County: 9 a.m.-3 p.m. June 26-30, Human Resources Complex, Montour Falls.
  • Steuben County: 9 a.m.-3 p.m. July 24-28, AIM office, 271 E. First St., Corning.
  • Chemung County: 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Aug. 22-26, AIM office, 350 W. Church St., Elmira.

Participants will learn what what self-direction is, what can be included in self-directed supports and services, the process of becoming self-directed, and whether self-direction is right for a specific individual.

Autism Services of the Finger Lakes at Happiness House presents the workshop Social Stories with Carol Gray on Friday, October 20 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. This conference is for families and professionals featuring Carol Gray, a consultant to children, adolescents, and adults with Autism providing support via workshops and information, referral resources, and direct services for individuals with Autism, their families, and those who work on their behalf.

Carol is best know for the development of Social Stories, a well-respected evidence-based practice used worldwide with people with of all ages.

The cost for this workshop is $85 for parents or $110 for professionals and includes morning continental breakfast, lunch and afternoon dessert/coffee, plus ample free parking.
