The Kelberman Center with iCan Shine presents iCan Bike, a five-day camp taking place from Aug. 21 through 25 for 75 minutes per day at the New Hartford Recreation Center. iCan Shine is a non-profit organization that teaches individuals with disabilities to ride a conventional two-wheel bicycle through this program.

Syracuse University Parent Assistance Center (SUPAC) presents the Webinar: A Positive Start to the School Year on Thursday, Aug. 24 from 12 to 1 p.m. Strategies to be discussed include proactive tips to make a child's start to the new school year a success. The training will offer a collection of strategies and ideas to help to introduce a child and communicate their strengths and needs to the new school team.

Access to Independence (ATI) of Courtland County, Inc. presents the workshop Transition Planning 101: Getting Started with IEP Transition Plans on Wednesday, Aug. 30 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This workshop will feature Kristine P. O'Brien, Parent Outreach Specialist with Syracuse University Parent Assistance Center. Post-secondary transition is planning and preparing for future after high school while still in school. In this workshop participants will learn about the transition process for students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Participants will also learn the answers to the following questions:

  • What does Post-Secondary Transition Mean?
  • When should planning begin for transition from school to the adult world?
  • Who is involved in the transition process?
  • What does transition planning look like in the IEP?


This training is open to all families that want to learn about transition planning for students with IEPs and is highly recommended for families of students in Middle School and High School.
