The Adaptive Teen Time at the Brooklyn Public Library offers teens with and without disabilities the opportunity to learn skills and make friends in a collaborative environment that promotes creativity and critical thinking skills.

 

Play a game, create music or make a new friend at the Adaptive Teen Time Progam.



Special Day for Special Kids at the NYC Transit Museum

The New York City Transit Museum and Extreme Kids and Crew present Special Day for Special Kids on Sunday, Oct. 16 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Special Day is an early opening for children of all ages with disabilities and their families. Participants may come dressed up in favorite subway colors and have fun with subway-themed activities in the museum.

The event will also feature:

  • Music by sensory-friendly DJ Reborn
  • Costumed Storyteller on the museum's Bluebird train car
  • Chill-out room to relax
  • Exclusive access to the Museum before it opens to the public.

The Brooklyn Public Library's Inclusive Services Department presents Adaptive Gaming Arcade on Sunday, May 28 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Central Library, Information Commons Lab. Join for a fun filled afternoon of Minecraft, rumble patch controllers, Wii and more! This session is open to teens ages 12 and up.

The Brooklyn Public Library's Inclusive Services Department presents One in Five Kids in the U.S. Have a Learning or Attention Issue, presented by Understood, on Tuesday, May 30 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Central Library, Trustee's Room. Refreshments will be served. Struggling with attention, reading, math or writing could be due to a learning or attention issue. At this presentation learn about three common conditions:

  • ADHD: Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
  • Dyscalculia: may also be called "Mathematics Learning Disability" or "Math Dyslexia"
  • Dyslexia: also known as a "Language-Based Learning Disability" or "Reading Disability"

Join other local parents at this community meet-up to discuss your child's experience with learning and attention issues. Swap tips, ask for advice and learn how to advocate in and out of school.
