The Adaptive Teen Time at the Brooklyn Public Library offers teens with and without disabilities the opportunity to learn skills and make friends in a collaborative environment that promotes creativity and critical thinking skills.

 

Play a game, create music or make a new friend at the Adaptive Teen Time Progam.

  • What type of financial assistance is there?
  • Where do I find it?
  • How can I support my student to self-advocate?
  • What are the disability services on campuses?
  • How does my student request accommodations?
  • How can I (parent)communicate with the college?

New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene presents the Health Education Forum Accessing Early Intervention Services and Managing Vision and Oral Health Care on Thursday, Sept. 13 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Participants in this forum will learn:

  • Prevention strategies to maintain your child's vision and oral health
  • Early warning signs and screening tests for vision and oral health
  • Treatment options and next steps if your doctor suspects and abnormal condition requiring early intervention
  • Resources for your child when they age out of the Early Intervention program

Autism-friendly performance of Disney’s The Lion King

TDF presents an Autism-friendly performance of Disney's The Lion King on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 1 p.m. This is a special performance for individuals on the Autism spectrum, as well as people with other developmental or cognitive disabilities who may benefit, not for the general public.

The running time for this play is two hours and thirty minutes including one fifteen minute intermission.

Warnings:

  • At the beginning of the show and at the beginning of the second act there is a large procession through the orchestra in the aisles. Please note this when choosing seat locations.
  • There are potentially scary moments in the first act with an on stage stampede and Mufasa falling from a cliff.
  • There are ramps at the edge of the stage. Please note this if you are accompanying an individual prone to running.
  • The fundraiser Broadway Flea Market & Grand Auction will be taking place on the day of this performance. This event produces large crowds and will cause congestion in the area of the Minskoff Theatre.

Ticket prices range from $50 to $79. Tickets will go on sale beginning at noon on Wednesday, Aug. 15. (enter password SIMBATDF). Click here for more information.
