The Adaptive Teen Time at the Brooklyn Public Library offers teens with and without disabilities the opportunity to learn skills and make friends in a collaborative environment that promotes creativity and critical thinking skills.

 

Play a game, create music or make a new friend at the Adaptive Teen Time Progam.

ADAPT Community Network presents the workshop Yoga for Children: Supporting the Body and Nourishing the Mind on Friday, Sept. 29 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. This presentation outlines the benefits of Yoga and provides actual activities that have been shown to be effective for children, with or without disabilities. Yoga is a form of self-expression and a creative way to develop problem solviong skills and increase communication. Yoga for children fosters self-confidence and is a great way to respond to emotions. Activities will be demonstrated that will aid the educator in the classroom as well as parents at home. Yoga is fun for the whole family. This workshop will be presented by Monica Levy, Certified Trainer for NYSAEYC and Founder of LeapSmart.

En este taller exploraremos los beneficios, y las ventajas del yoga. Se proporcionaran actividades reales que han sido demostrado ser eficaces con los niños que tienen discapacidades del desarrollo. Los temas cubiertos incluyen: El Yoga es una forma de autoexpresión y una manera creativa de desarrollar comunicación de aumento y técnicas de resolución de problemas. Yoga para niños ayuda a fortalezer la seguridad en sí mismo y es una gran manera de responder a las emociones. El yoga ayuda con el desarrollo de la conciencia corporal, mejora la fuerza, flexibilidad, reduce la ansiedad, la frustración, miedos, problemas para dormir y mejora la postura. Se ofrecera una variedad de actividades que ayudarán al educador en el aula, así como a los padres en el hogar. El yoga es divertido para toda la familia!

ADAPT Community Network presents the workshop Related Services & Students Needs on Thursday, Oct. 5 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Related services help children with disabilities benefit from their special education by providing extra help and support in needed areas. This workshop will provide an overview of some of these services and the role of an Occupational, Physical and Speech Therapist and Social Worker. In addition, these therapists will suggest some activities you can do at home to help your child to become more independent. This workshop will be presented by Stacey Biggio a Speech Language Pathologist, Shannon Sais a Physical Therapist, Tomasina Harper an Occupational Therapist, Nanette Lavin a Social Worker from Adapt Community Network Bronx Children's Program.

Los servicios relacionados proveen apoyo adicional a niños con necesidades educativas especiales en las áreas en las que requieren mayor refuerzo (movilidad, lenguaje, etc.) En este taller, hablaremos de algunos de estos servicios y del rol que cumplen el terapista del lenguaje, el terapista físico, el terapista ocupacional y trabajadora social. Adicionalmente, los terapistas invitados le darán sugerencias sobre actividades que puede hacer en su hogar para reforzar las terapias y ayudar a su hijo (a) a ser más independiente.
