Sensory Sensitive Storytime at Greece Public Library will take place on Wednesday, April 26 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Children ages 3 through 8 are invited to move, sing and play at Sensory Sensitive Story Time. This program is free and open to children of all abilities, however, it is especially designed for children with sensory integration challenges. Children who have previous struggled to sit through other story times may find this a better fit.

Powerful and intense feelings are a natural and common response to parenting a child with exceptional needs. This training will provide an overview of common emotions experienced by parents and discuss how, by sharing and acknowledging these emotions, parents can find the inner strength needed to face and embrace their role as a parent of a child with special needs.

Managing Autism Together Today (MATT) presents the sixth annual Autism Spectrum Connection Fair on Saturday, Apr. 29 from 9 am. to 1 p.m. This free community event connects parents who have children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) with agencies, businesses, and organizations in the Greater Rochester, New York area that provide Autism services, support, and information.

This fair will feature over 70 community organizations providing information for parents and caregivers including Parent to Parent of NYS and others featuring:

  • Alternative communication devices
  • Childcare services and assistance
  • Early Intervention Services
  • Medical care providers who have experience with special needs children
  • Music, occupational, physical, and speech therapies
  • Parent advocacy and support
  • Recreational, social, & wellness activities for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families
  • And, more!

The fun at the fair will include a rock wall, bounce houses, carpet bowling, special exhibits, sensory area, dance and music performances, special guests, and other activities for special needs children and siblings. Additionally, there will be raffle prizes and giveaways for all.

The Autism Center presents Summer Day Camp 2017 at 4-H Camp Bristol Hills. This camp, formed in partnership between The Autism Center and 4-H Camp Bristol Hills, the Summer Day Camp opportunity offers a unique and fun summer activity for children with disabilities or other challenges.

To be eligible campers must have an intellectual or other developmental disability, including Autism, and be between the ages of 8 and 16. OPWDD eligiblity and Hourly Waiver Respite enrolled preferred, those non-eligibile needing our support will be considered. Autism Up presents the 10th annual Social Skills Program for Children with Autism in collaboration with the Greater Rochester YMCA on July 10 through Aug. 18. This program is available to children with Autism Spectrum Disorders between the ages of 4 and 16. Specialized instruction makes it possible for the campers to be fully included in regular camp activities.
