Starbridge presents the workshop series I Am My Child's Best Advocate from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the following dates:

  • Oct. 16: Ways to improve communication skills and teamwork and school-based options to support children's educational success.
  • Oct. 30: CSE? IEP? What do those mean and how can they help? Schools offer a range of supports and services. Learn what those are and join us for answers and guidance.
  • Nov. 13: Identify child's goals and hopes for the future and discuss how to plan for life after high school.
  • Nov. 20: Ways to support your child when they struggle with challenging behaviors; how you can practice effective advocacy and teamwork; and how to take care of you.
  • Nov. 27: How to help if bullying becomes an issue at school. Then, you'll share your child's vision with your classmates and celebrate your graduation!

The series is free for family members to attend but registration is required. To register call 585-224-7399 or visit the event calendar on the Starbridge website. $5 gas gift cards per family will be provided each day. Lunch will be provided.

Starbridge presents the workshop Is Inclusive Education for Us? on Wednesday, Oct. 24 from 8:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. Join Shelley Moore, international speaker, teacher, and storyteller, for a full-day FREE workshop for families of school-aged children who have disabilities, self-advocates, and caregivers. This session will look at what inclusive education means in today's classrooms and communities.

   

The workshop will also discuss common misunderstandings and myths of inclusive education, while uncovering ways to advocate for balanced and growth-based educational programs for all students from a strength-based perspective.
