Families/Individuals are welcome to attend any session that is convenient for them. Starbridge and Parent to Parent of NYS in partnership with Arc of Yates presents the half-day Family Skill-Building Series workshop on Saturday, Mar. 25 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The first part of the workshop will feature Individualized Education Program: The Essentials from 10 to 11:30 a.m. This workshop will prepare participants to actively participate on the IEP team. The presenter is Laura Arrington, Family and Youth Education Coordinator at Starbridge.

The second part of this workshop featured Preventing Parent Burnout for Parents of Children Who Have Special Needs from 12 to 1:30 p.m. Parenting a child with special needs requires energy, focus, and enthusiasm. The better off parents are emotionally and physically, the better off families will be. Discover positive ways to come with and effectively manage stress. The presented is Jacqui Liebman, Regional Coordinator for the Finger Lakes office of Parent to Parent of NYS.

The Arc of Livingston-Wyoming presents Try It (or not) on Wednesday, Mar. 29 from 4 to 6 p.m. This will be a chance for kids and teens to try some different foods in a relaxed, up-beat, low-pressure atmosphere with their peers. There will be various tasting tables set up throughout the dining room and children will have the chance to try something - or not! There will be no bribing, reinforcement, interventions, or tricks: just try it, or not. If they don't like it, there will be waste cans and paper towels for food failures and recipes and information for successes. Foods will be labeled and ingredients and flavors may be different due to preparation, but they won't be hidden.

This is for children and teens and their family/friends - anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. To attend please register by Tuesday, Mar. 14 at 4 p.m. - an accurate head count will be needed for the chef. To register call, email, text or mail registration information with:

Ontario ARC presents the educational series Self-Directed Living on Apr. 25 from 3 to 5 p.m. Self-Directed Services is an OPWDD iniative that provides a person the pathway to make decisions about what supports and services they need to enjoy meaningful relationships, experience personal health and growth, and live in the home and community they choose. Managing Autism Together Today (MATT) presents the sixth annual Autism Spectrum Connection Fair on Saturday, Apr. 29 from 9 am. to 1 p.m. This free community event connects parents who have children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) with agencies, businesses, and organizations in the Greater Rochester, New York area that provide Autism services, support, and information.

This fair will feature over 70 community organizations providing information for parents and caregivers including Parent to Parent of NYS and others featuring:

  • Alternative communication devices
  • Childcare services and assistance
  • Early Intervention Services
  • Medical care providers who have experience with special needs children
  • Music, occupational, physical, and speech therapies
  • Parent advocacy and support
  • Recreational, social, & wellness activities for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families
  • And, more!

The fun at the fair will include a rock wall, bounce houses, carpet bowling, special exhibits, sensory area, dance and music performances, special guests, and other activities for special needs children and siblings. Additionally, there will be raffle prizes and giveaways for all.
