Stacia Kooney
Regional Coordinator My name is Stacia Kooney. I am married and am the mother of two beautiful children, Meredith and Matthew, who are truly the center of my universe. I received my BA degree in Communications in 1990 from Loyola University, New Orleans (my hometown). I married a Naval Submarine Officer between my junior and senior year of college and then spent the next 11 years moving. I lived in Florida, Connecticut (4 different times), Washington and Maryland (near DC). During my time as a Navy wife, I worked – sometimes for pay, others times not – as a Student Activities Assistant for UCONN, a “Loaned Executive” for United Way, a Media Rep for Girl Scouts, a budget counselor for Navy Marine Corps Relief Society and then as a full time parent. My beautiful & intelligent daughter, Meredith, was born in DC in 1995. She had a congenital birth defect, bilateral clubfeet. She has had 3 surgeries to date, wears an AFO and continues to be watched for multiple orthopedic issues. She participates in accelerated classes, is an extremely talented artist and is an exemplary Girl Scout whose compassion for others is striking. My handsome and mischievous son, Matthew, was born in Connecticut in 1997. He was diagnosed with Autism just after his second birthday. He has the nickname Houdini because he is able to get through any type of child proofing device and find any forbidden or hidden item anywhere. He is beautiful, intelligent and an absolute bundle of energy. He is able to recite Harry Potter videos word for word. We are seriously beginning to expect some of his spells to start working soon! Currently I am transitioning from being a full-time volunteer and mother to being an over-committed working mom. It’s quite the challenge, but I love it. I want to thank all of you for the opportunity to use the information that I’ve learned over the last 13 years to help others. It makes the difficult path of learning it worthwhile. I can be reached at Parent to Parent at 518-381-4350 and by email at staciap2p@verizon.net
