Alexandra Santana

Regional Coordinator
Hudson Valley Office

What characterizes me that I would like to make sure other people know about me and remember me by?

A positive outlook on life and the desire to help other parents.

Why is Parent to Parent important to you?

I believe that Parent to Parent gives the opportunity to find someone that will listen and understand our feelings.

What happens when a parent speaks with another parent and receives support from another parent?

It makes a parent feel empowered and better about their journey ahead because it makes a parent understand that they are not alone.

Did you contact Parent to Parent looking for support before you were a Regional Coordinator?

I did not because I didn’t know about it when I started my journey with my son. However, it is wonderful that now I can help other parents.

How does the opportunity to connect with other parents benefit families?

It gives them information, it educates them and it gives a parent the opportunity to open up about their kid’s issues that they might not talk with someone else.

What qualities do I look for when recruiting support parents?

I am looking for someone that listens and is able to provide help and solutions.

What kind of information, referrals, or community connections are families looking for?

At this time of the year families are looking for camps, summer resources and organizations.

Was there a time when someone went above and beyond all expectations to help you with your child?

Yes, that person is my wonderful mother. She left her years of retirement and moved in with us to help us take care of my son. I am balanced today because of her and her out pouring of love and constant support.

Have you ever had a bizarre or off the charts comment or statement made to you by someone regarding your child?

Yes, my child’s first neurologist, he said “your child might never talk”. Today I have the pleasure to hear his voice everyday all the time and have wonderful conversations about horses.
